What happened after graduation?

Was employed by University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas in January 1959 starting out in the Medical Records Department and worked self up through the ranks. Lorena was in charge of Surgery Scheduling, Gynecology. Organized the Patients Relations Department where it grew to 20 employees and various other Departments. Lorena took care of many famous people including Movie Stars, Owners of Gigantic Companies, Governors Wife, Congressmen, Judges, Shieks, etc.

 

 

In 1989 won the prestigious "Julie and Ben Rogers Award of Excellence" for being tops in her field and a $10,000 stipend. In 1992 was promoted to Associate Vice President. Retired from M.D.Anderson in 2000 after 41 years of Service in. Lorena went to work part time at Polly Ryan Hospital (later renamed Oakbend Medical Center) in 2000 where she again retired in 2006.

 

Married Richard "Dick" T. Collier 11-26-58 and have been married for 49 years. Dick was in Banking for approx. 25 years before purchasing a Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Store and later a Hallmark Card and Gift Shop.

 

Children and grandchildren

Son Brian Scott who is a Electrical Engineer at NASA and he and his wife Laura produced us a Grandson Zachary 3-1/2 years old. Brian has 2 degrees and working on a 3rd. Brian's first degree was from Texas Tech. Univ. and second degree from U. of H. in Clear Lake.

 

Daughter Shelley Denise is a Senior Pharm. Rep. with a Major Pharm. Company. Shelley and her Ex. adopted us a Granddaughter from China at age 10 months and is now 8-1/2 years old. Shelley graduated from Stepen F. Austin College.

Special interests or hobbies

Cross Stitching Quilts, and other types of items.  Teaching Granddaughter to cook and cross-Stitch, playing games with her and teaching her values of life. Reading, Church Activities and watching movies with Husband.
