The Vaqueras Drill Team was started during the summer of 1957 and first marched during the school year of 1957-58. Patricia Cockrell asked Mr. Avara for permission to start a drill team. Ms. Olivia Moore and Ms. Betty Allison agreed to be our sponsors.
Patricia, Waw Wease and I went to Ms. Moore’s home and that is where and when it began. I think Bonnie went with us but not sure who else.
I recently met with the school principal and current director of the Vaqueras to discuss celebrating 50 years this next football season. Tentative date is October 27th at the Thorn Football Stadium on FM 525 (Aldine Bender). All former drill team members are invited to attend and be on the field during half-time.
